CYBERBULLYING AND STUDENT COMMUNITY

We are leaving in a society where people carry an abundance of knowledge in their fingertips. We can’t find a youngster who is unaware of the internet and its possibilities. Always these easy access to data and knowledge will help them in improving their aspirations and dreams, but the increase in the rate of cyber-crimes indicate the negative shade of over usage of the internet.

Current researches show the increased rate of cyberbullying among students, Cyberbullying is any kind of bullying or harassment through electronic media with the help of internet. It can be through phones, laptops, tablets etc. Usually, this happens in social media platform like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, twitter etc. it will reach the victim in the form of a text, audio or video message. The acceptance shown by the public towards these social Media increases the impact of these bullying on the victim. It is found that social bullying shows much more impact than real-life bullying on the mental status of the victim.

Importance of cyberbullying in the syllabus

As we all know youngsters are the most active participants in social media platforms, they are more vulnerable to this kind of cyber-attacks. So, we have to make them aware of cyberbullying and its consequences, how they will be affected by cyberbullying and how they can harm another person by cyberbullying. This will may prevent them from a victim and a criminal perhaps. Usually, it’s observed that we can’t find the one behind this crime since cyberspace is a vast one, the victim will be confused, panicked, and will lose self-confidence in most cases. What we can do is help them know what everything was like in cyberbullying and prevent them from doing so, and make them aware of it’s a punishable offence.

  • • Spreading false rumours
  • • Forwarding sexually explicit images and messages
  • • Cyberstalking
  • • Physical threats
  • • Unauthorized sharing of personal images and information without consent.

How to identify a victim of cyberbullying?

Students who experience cyberbullying won't share it because of anxiety. if we can’t find them as soon as possible maybe their life will be in danger. Cyberbullying usually affects the mental health of the victim eventually they will become physically weak too. The major symptoms shown by victims are the following

  • • Angry outbursts
  • • Avoiding friends they used to hang out with
  • • Repeated texts or calls from numbers you don’t recognize
  • • Being isolated from society even from friends and family
  • • They will be showing no interest in anything
  • • Anxiety, sleeplessness

How to tackle cyberbullying?

A peer group, parents or class teacher can easily find them and help them to recover from this trauma, there are several methods adapted for helping them which include

  • • Give them a chance to explain everything giving them enough space and approach them gently
  • • Make them confident that their personality and their outlooks cannot be questioned by no one.
