HOW LEADERSHIP INFLUENCES STUDENT LEARNING

“Leader”- the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. Every community/ society/governing body is led by a particular person or a group of people, and the success of that institution depends upon that leadership. The basic idea of leadership came to a child when he/she will be in their primary classes.

The ubiquitous character of leadership is that it can play a significant role in the improvement of student education. This is because the overall impact of leadership on student learning is about a quarter of the overall effects on education. Another reason for this is the formal administrative roles students play, if greater the challenge they face more they will learn.

Essential student leadership skills

A successful leader has to learn not only the basics but also constructive approaches to the unique needs of their contexts. Leaders need to cultivate a wide range of activities and flexibility to choose the portfolio as appropriate, rather than to be educated to adopt a perfect approach. Some of the basic skills which a school leader should have are as follows:

Creating a competitive school environment:

This is a goal for school leaders to compete with students for school credits. Benefits will always attract others and will build up a competitive environment among the students. These competitions will motivate the students to perform well in the classrooms.

Empowering others to make significant decisions:

This is a fundamental objective for leaders to encourage students in information-guided decision-making. It is essential to maintain the discipline because sometimes a leader needs cooperation from others to finish a task. Checking on every student in not practical and time-consuming, so the best way is to make them motivated to do things from their side.

Providing instructional guidance:

Leaders need to provide instructional guidance to improve student learning. This is mainly because some students will be lagging in the class. As a leader, they have to support those who lag to maintain the rhythm in the classroom.

Developing and implementing strategic and school improvement plans:

When schools need school development strategies, school leaders need to learn skills that are relevant to the effective preparation and implementation of these plans. It is difficult for teachers to keep track of progress all the time, and the school leader can play that role and update the same.

Leadership impacts in student’s

According to recent researches leadership only have a secondary impact on student learning. Usually, it is observed that leadership abilities make a positive impact on learning. Comparing the educational institution's leadership abilities show a greater impact on schools where classroom learning is at their peak. That makes school leaders more efficient, they get not only attention but also responsibilities. These responsibilities include correlating the ideas and activities of a peer group, set directions, make them productive, most importantly keeping the rhythm of the group.
